"Hey friends, did you have dumplings today?" It's the Beginning of Winter-what we call Lidong in Chinese -the first chapter of the season. This solar term isn't just a turning point in nature—it's also filled with the wisdom of "storing" and a sense of warm, cozy rituals.
There's an old saying among farmers:"If it rains on Lidong, expect a damp and gloomy winter ahead". Farmers are busy storing the last harvest in their barns, animals are curling up in their dens for hibernation, and even the rivers seem to flow a little slower... Though we no longer need to worry about stocking up for winter, gathering around the table to share warm meals is still very much a part of that philosophy of living in harmony with nature.
The elders used to say, "If you don't eat dumplings on Lidong, your ears might freeze off—and no one will care!"A steaming bowl of dumplings, mutton soup, or ginger tea warms not just the stomach, but the heart as well. Each bite carries wishes for health and safety for family and friends.
Life is like the four seasons: spring's vitality, summer's passion, autumn's reflection, and winter's quiet rest. So perhaps now is a good time to slow down a little: read a good book, brew a pot of tea, have a heart-to-heart with your family by the hearth. In quiet moments, we gather strength—and in the depths of time, meet a better version of ourselves.
